ABOUT IBMs
Companies have different ways to provide value to their stakeholders, across society and the environment. Some companies do so by excellent operations: they work from energy-neutral buildings, have set up systems for transparent governance, or have outstanding policies to cater to their employees’ well being.
Some other companies are specifically designed to benefit a specific stakeholder, and are purpose-driven at their core. Whether it is through a product or service that regenerates the environment, by being designed to benefit its workers e.g. via ownership shares, or by selling a product that have beneficial effects that ripple through the supply chain.
Both operational impact and impact provided through a company’s business model are captured in the B Impact Assessment – the assessment tool provided by B Lab, for all companies to measure and manage their impact.
What is the B Impact Assessment (BIA)?
The B Impact Assessment is a free, confidential online tool that has been used by over 80,000 companies to measure and manage their impact. The Assessment measures performance across five Impact Areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Customers and Environment, and is the standard used by Certified B Corporations and GIIRS Rated companies. The B Impact Assessment (BIA) walks businesses through a series of questions to help them learn what it takes to build a better business – better for workers, the community, and the environment. The BIA also provides feedback to businesses on how they compare to other businesses, and tools and best practices to improve their impact over time.
