Coming Together to Develop B Lab Europe’s 3-Year Strategy for Impact and Scale

Where do we see the European B Corp movement in the future? B Lab Europe stepped up to the challenge to define a strategic roadmap for the next three years.

A Roadmap for our Growing Team and Movement

Over the last year, B Lab Europe has grown both in size and expertise. Our team doubled in size, our local country partners grew to a network of over 100 individuals across 13 countries, and 471 B Corps joined the European community in 2022 alone. At this pivotal moment for our organization, it became clear to us that while our vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all remains core to who we are, our plan for how we get there must adapt to the exciting new reality of where our movement is today.

So earlier this year, we set the goal to develop a new 3-year strategy for B Lab Europe. Never before have we been more equipped to craft a fresh blueprint for our organization, one that leverages the incredible talent and ambition of the team we have built, sets our local country partners up for success, and rises to the enormity of the societal and environmental challenges our planet faces today.

Involving the Entire Team

In early August, the B Lab Europe team kicked off this ambitious strategy process at Amsterdam’s iconic circular working grounds of De Ceuvel. To support us in the journey, we brought in the expertise of Fixit, an impact-first strategy consultancy (and proud B Corp!) who guided us through PM4R (planning and managing by results), a result-focused strategy development methodology where objectives, results, products, and KPIs are defined and refined as a team.

Among the upcycled ships of Amsterdam Noord, we were challenged to think outside our day-to-day roles and functions and think bigger: What will success look like in three years? Where do we want to be in 2026? How can we strengthen B Lab Europe’s unique contribution to our regional network and our B Corp community? Are our current processes and services helping us deliver our best results? In a landscape where so much action is needed, how can we optimize and focus on where we can generate the most impact?

Post-Workshop: Canal Boat Trip with the Team

Following an intensive day of workshopping and discussion, the team took to the canals of Amsterdam with Rederij Lampedusa, an initiative that seeks to share a different view on refugees and migration through storytelling. We embarked on what was once an Egyptian fishing boat used to smuggle hundreds of people across the Mediterranean and brought to Amsterdam in 2015 by activists to raise awareness of the refugee crisis. Our captain and guide– both former asylum seekers– bravely shared their stories and prompted us to look at the city from a different perspective.

Our day ended with dinner at Mediamatic, a beautiful waterside restaurant serving 100% plant-based cuisine with regional and seasonal ingredients.

What’s Next for B Lab Europe?

In the upcoming weeks, B Lab Europe’s leadership team will continue to build on the foundations set this summer and finalize what will become our roadmap for the upcoming three years. We’re striving for a bold strategy, one that spurs creativity and innovation and equips our teams with a strong vision for the future. While we don’t know exactly what the world will look like three years from now, one thing is clear: never has the challenge to transform business as a force for good been so pressing. The strategy is only the first step, and we can’t wait to turn it into action with our teams, network, and community.
