About MUD Jeans

MUD Jeans is a Dutch denim brand that dreams of a world in which there is no such thing as waste. What if we all clean up our own mess? This simple thought led to a concept that is called Cotton Lease. The jeans can be bought, but the cotton is leased. MUD Jeans retains ownership of the raw materials and asks customers to send their jeans back when they are done wearing them. MUD Jeans reuses all materials, while customers can switch to a new pair. Returned jeans are upcycled and transformed into one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. Or, when they are beyond repair, the jeans are shipped to Italy where they are recycled into new items.

We use the international B Corp network to find collaborations and exchange knowledge. As a pioneering company you get to go through complex challenges as first. We are always happy to share our learnings with like-minded companies.

The Change We Seek®

We all know that natural resources aren’t unlimited. That is why MUD Jeans applies the principles of the circular economy. In the circular economy, waste is a source of growth to make something new. Recycling clothing decreases the amount of water needed in production by 50%. Clothing manufacturing has a big water footprint. Creating one jean takes 8,000 liters of water. Every step in producing jeans requires water, from growing the cotton to the manufacturing process. In many regions water is scarce, yet essential for hydration and agriculture.

MUD Jeans' products are produced under fair working conditions. Additionally, they only work with GOTS certified or BCI certified cotton.

What truly makes MUD Jeans unique is the fact that they create their own circle of denim products. To MUD Jeans it makes no sense to grow cotton and then leave the garments lying in a wardrobe not being of any use. Around 30% of garments in wardrobes are not worn for at least a year. MUD Jeans instead reuses the fabrics and makes them useful again. Their worn out jeans are shredded and mixed with new organic cotton, and a new spun denim yarn is born from which jumpers are manufactured. MUD Jeans is proud of their newest jumper made from 84% recycled denim.
